Chocolate Affects Your Self-Esteem
Chocolate Addiction affects many aspects of life from intimate relationships, to how we deal with stress.. One common affect of this addiction which is all too often overlooked is that of low self-esteem, hidden under the wrappers of the chocolate. In order to look at overcoming chocolate it is beneficial to look at how your self-esteem is affected by it.
First of all, what is self-esteem? Self-esteem is often described as the ingredients, or inner confidence, whilst self-confidence is what is one show, your outer-confidence. Therefore, what usually occurs is that people bluff their way into situations with a front of outer confidence, but as time goes by, their inner confidence or their self-esteem is revealed. For example: on a date a lady might appear confident yet as the relationship develops the lady reveals she has serious body hang ups so finds it hard to disrobe with the lights on. Therefore, here are a few questions to help you to tune into your own levels of self-esteem which you addiction to chocolate are likely covering up.
1.Do you find yourself eating chocolate as you are afraid people will not be able to accept your whole self ‘warts and all?
2.Do you find yourself eating it instead of confronting people about issues that have been bothering you and making you feel sad, upset, or stressed?
3.Do you find yourself eating it because you find it hard to say no when you truly know that you should?
4.Do you find yourself eating it as a form of ‘Dutch courage,’ before a date, or meeting new people, for example?
5.Do you find yourself eating it when you are experiencing overwhelm, extreme stress, or a negative emotion instead of reaching out for support, love and understanding from someone you know would love to be there for you?
If you have responded with a ‘yes indeed,’ to any of the above, it is likely that you are ‘using’ chocolate to cover up your self-esteem. As a result, it could be helpful for you to start write down in a journal how you feel when you eat chocolate before, during and after to start to build up a more accurate and more detailed pictured of just how it is really affecting your self-esteem for you to start to build it back up and overcome your addiction to chocolate.
